Gordon Brown’s ‘wake-up call’ on prescription charges
this is to remind you that on Monday people across England will be supporting the Prescription Promise campaign by giving Gordon Brown a literal wake-up (phone) call on prescription charges.
If Brown doesnt pass new legislation within the next few weeks, free prescriptions for people with long-term conditions will fail to become a reality before the election and may not become a reality at all.
Please call Gordon Brown between 11am and 12pm on Monday 1 February 2010. If we all do this simultaneously, we will show Gordon Brown that we mean business and will not allow this policy to fall through the cracks. Not all of our calls will get through, but our attempts will be logged and noted by the Government.
Its also vital that you let us know you intend to take part in the wake-up call, so that we can let the media and others know how important this issue is to you. Please tell us youre taking part by emailing keepthepromise2010@gmail.com, including your name, location and if you would consider speaking to your local media on this issue, please include a daytime telephone number.
The wake-up call
The number to reach the Number 10 office is 020 7276 1234
We will all ring at the same time between 11am and 12pm
You will be put through to the main switchboard please can you stick broadly to the following script:
Hi, please can I speak to Mr Brown? (answer is likely to be that he is not available).
Please can you pass him a message that he must implement the prescription charge promise he made in September 2008 to people with long-term conditions?
Mr Brown must take urgent action to make free prescriptions a reality, before its too late.
Thank you.
DETAILS ABOUT THE WAKE-UP CALL ARE BEING KEPT UNDER WRAPS UNTIL 00.01AM ON 1 FEBRUARY, SO PLEASE DO NOT SHARE ANY INFORMATION WITH YOUR LOCAL MEDIA UNTIL THEN!
Thank you very much in advance for your help,
Asthma UKs Campaigns and Parliamentary Team
